Welcome to Guuurl, That's My Jam!

Here, have some rules:

1. Prompts are bi-weekly (lasting 14 days) and the rotational schedule to pick prompts can be found to your right, under ►Playlist. An "at-a-glance" version of the current jam can be found under ►Now Playing.

2. Posting a fill for each prompt isn't mandatory, but you MUST post at least one fill for the prompt preceding yours, otherwise your turn to pick a prompt will be skipped.

3. Please don't ask to join the blog (unless we know you). This place was created for classmates to keep in touch upon graduation, and as such it's pretty much invite only. You're more than welcome to follow for updates or play along at home and post the results at your own blogs. :)

Iðunn, spa owner

Chose to a bit of A and a bit of B. I was aiming for a mix of the Norse mythology prompt and what would hopefully be Gustav Klimt's style... (except her top's not sheer as planned.) Here's what I ended up with.. It's their goddess of spring/rejuvenation. She was the keeper of the apples of immortality that the gods ate to preserve their youth and beauty. So I figured she could be a spa owner of some sort..

Although.. I also think I channeled Mucha slightly. Was looking at both of their stuff recently.. Who knows!

Exploration

Hey folks. Time for some artistic endeavours to take place, and time to explore your inner artist and let it out. Also be a little lazy.
Have you been watching the prompt, thinking, aw shit, I wish I had time to do that prompt but you didn't and you couldn't. Here you go:

  • Pick a prompt of your choice, that you missed and do it.
  • Pick a prompt that you did previously, but do it in a different style - something you don't normally do. The best challenge would be to emulate a style you have  absolutely no idea how to do, but you really want to. You may consider picking a classic artist to emulate, such as Gil Elvgren, Alphonse Mucha or some one else with a very distinct style that is not your own.
You can use any previous prompt you want. Have at, and good luck!

Little Scorpio

It's not an illustration but more of a character design.
Here's Scorpio; cute but not very huggable.

VIRGO-LIBRA

I'm a Virgo-Libra Cusp.. or Virbra, lol?
Forgot what they're supposed to be like, so I googled it:
...
Virgo/Libras strive to create balance and harmony between themselves and others. They bring their skills and talents together for the good of others. Despite their inherent modesty, those born on the Virgo/Libra cusp are industrious and efficient when working for a good cause. Virgo/Libras abhor unfairness and conflict, striving above all for peace, but at times they are easily deterred from their beliefs. They are able to see all sides of an argument, but as their mental scales sway back and forth, they may never find balance and can become fickle and indecisive.

Taurus the Bull

Went the graphic route, since well, a humanoid bull is pretty much a Minotaur (or Tauren, for you WoW players) and I've already drawn one of those before... wearing chaps, even, heh.
Also, I've always wanted an excuse to just draw a fancy Taurus design. :)

Edit: Overlayed the actual Taurus constellation on to the image.

Libra as the Justice Seeker, and Charmer

Libras can be lazy folk, they can be quite messy, and generally unsuccessful people - if they don't have a cause to fight for injustice. What ever they deem unjust can motivate them. And no one can see other people's perspective like a Libra can.

However they can also be passive aggressive, and not particularly connected to any one person because of this unbiased perspective. They're also renowned for being particularly indecisive.

Libras are also known as the charmers, attractive people who can get along with everyone.

Or so the books say.

19.11.11

Unbalance

Don't have too much to say about this one, cause I think it became more of a personal sort of art in the end. Libra is the scale so it's all about balance and yadda yadda so I just approached it from the angle of balance not being the easiest thing to achieve. So I'll leave it at that.

18.11.11

Aquarius

Yeah, I drew a lady. Surprise surprise. However, I tried to shake it up by trying a higher angle. Very tricky.

17.11.11

Pie & Seas

Pie and Seas are a peculiar people. They can't seem to agree on anything - not a direction to go in, not a favourite cookie, not the softest of the fabrics, not a thing. These twins are always in conflict with one another.

Edit: I can't get enough of these two, o3o.

13.11.11

Aang Cut-Out Test

Okay, a little late with this since I wanted to paint in a background as well (but didn't get to it, as you can see).
Mostly just messing around with some different animation techniques on a partial Aang rig I put together while in Atlanta, nothing fancy.

12.11.11

Astrology

Now, some of you may or may not be astrology buffs like I know Dee and I are, but I'm about to make an astrological prompt! For simplicity's sake, I'm aiming for the Zodiac with this prompt.

Portray your astrological sign as an abstract piece, a human embodiment, or fantastical anthropomorphized incarnation of the already established symbol. Challenge yourself to stay within your own sign, so that there's variety (I think we've got a fair amount of diversity in birthdays here?) but, if yours is really not all that inspiring (say, two fishies, like mine), you can pick another sign, on the condition that you make it super awesome. ;D

Or, if the above doesn't suit your fancy, you can portray the exact typical personality of your sign, in a character design (ie. Pisces emotional and spacey, Leo enthusiastic but bossy, etc.).

Stoneman

Sooooo I've barely seen any episodes of this show, forgive me for the uninspired scribble.

8.11.11

Legend of Korra

There, I coloured it.
I don't know about you, but I think Korra's arms are a bit too manly. Look at the wiki. (EDIT: Julia pointed out she's probably an Olympic level swimmer, so those shoulders totally make sense.)

EDIT: I had to retract an earlier statement, because I took 45 minutes out of my day to colour it. It was worth it. Avatar is amazing.

5.11.11

"My own mother thought I was a monster..."

"...she was right, of course."

Oh man, my cintiq crapped out halfway through lineart... so just moused the rest. >_>
