Welcome to Guuurl, That's My Jam!

Here, have some rules:

1. Prompts are bi-weekly (lasting 14 days) and the rotational schedule to pick prompts can be found to your right, under ►Playlist. An "at-a-glance" version of the current jam can be found under ►Now Playing.

2. Posting a fill for each prompt isn't mandatory, but you MUST post at least one fill for the prompt preceding yours, otherwise your turn to pick a prompt will be skipped.

3. Please don't ask to join the blog (unless we know you). This place was created for classmates to keep in touch upon graduation, and as such it's pretty much invite only. You're more than welcome to follow for updates or play along at home and post the results at your own blogs. :)

3.7.12

The COOL FACTORY

So everyone knows the superheroes who were less than great -the superheroes who lacked in the super department. The superheroes who were more thuperduper than actually incredible.

So I ask you, since everyone had so much fun with superheroes last time, let's take the less than great ones - and make them cool again.

Think: http://www.manolith.com/2010/02/10/15-lamest-superhero-powers/ or there used to be one on cracked but hell if I can find it right now.

I'll post it if I can!

<3

Also, try to use more DC characters than Marvel, we had a Marvel onslaught last time!

1.7.12

Petar of the Spider

Sorry I'm late!  To be fair I sketched out several characters, but it turns out that Superman and the Fantastic Four are still boring in fantasy settings.  However, inspiration struck for this little goblin hunter.  Shading to follow?  Maybe?  I'm digging the flat colors personally.  Oh and for added nerdiness, those are goggles of advanced perception, twin bags of endless hooks and grapples and of course, boots of spider climb.

PS-  If this blog is any indication, the Xmen are clearly the only superheros who matter as Spidey here is the only one who's not on the team.  I was this close to doing a Martian Man Hunter ranger, just to give DC some love.

29.6.12

Nightcrawler the blue bruise tiefling cleric

Are you surprised? Kurt is my baby, <3. (Also I am aware how super late this is, I couldn't find the time this past week to colour and shade it til now, T__T..)

22.6.12

Jubilee!

Jubilee as a street-urchin turned rogue with a penchant for explosives?

(oh, and DVD extras initial concept sketch wooo!!)

18.6.12

Phoenix

Here's Phoenix, as inspired by mythology instead of just plain old alien-insanity.

I pulled from Mythology, mostly Greek with a litttle Nordic thrown in there. I kept her symbol in tact around her neck but it got a little malformed in my cack-handed painting job.

Mildred set the standards too high.

16.6.12

DONE

I discovered how fun splatter brushes are. Someone should take them away from my rull quick. But anyway, this is the Storm in my imagined universe where she's more of an Oracle/Weather Witch than anything. I pulled from traditional Kenynan clothing (since that's where she's originally from) and also pulled influence from several of her costumes.

So yeah.

I HAD FUN WITH THIS. THIS IS REALLY FUN

13.6.12

STORM

HAI GUYS

CAUSE YOU DIDN'T EXPECT ME TO POST

OR EXPECT ME TO TACKLE STORM

BUT HERE I AM

Will color later. Just wanted to post something to prove I'm alive :d

12.6.12

Full Fantasy Heroes

Its been done but its cool so we're doing it!  Take a modern super hero and put them in a fantasy setting and then change their outfit accordingly.  If you wanna get out there, change there race.  Half orc Hulk?  Gnomish Wasp?  Cyclopian....Cyclops?  You get the idea!  If you wanna be lame and boring then yes, you can do something from the Thor universe, but I consider it cheating and it better be awesome!  This guy beat us to it (he's DenisM79 on dA) so shoot for this!

5.5.12

They said he couldn't and shouldn't fly. But he said with his built in antennae and radar, they couldn't stop him. (Tiny bit late, forgive me.)

4.5.12

Monkey Heard... *NEW TOPIC*

Monkey heard some beautiful music..
I wonder where it came from??

so.. this is it guys ~(= w =)~
show me the source of that music~~

3.5.12

I know..

I know they don't live in the same pole... but neither does the bowling ball.. :b

21.4.12

Its silly, but its also 420 (or at least it was when I started drawing).

19.4.12

Prompt for MOAR ANIMALS

Hey Guys! Lets draw some animals doing completely outrageous and impractical jobs or hobbies.

It could be cute, unrelated, punny, whatever. Have fun!

3.4.12

What do you See?

Sorry I'm late bros.

So I thought of an idea, to stretch our creativity. People have done it before, and I'm currently a bit busy to come up with something new however ---

Have at:

Take either of the two, or both, and draw something. Use the lines to inspire anything, poses, a landscape, a face, whatever you want.

When you post, post the drawing with the lines superimposed, and the drawing by itself!

<3

ADDENDUM:

Extra Challenge! If you go on CGTextures.com, and find a rock face, and use that to inspire your drawing, bonus points (That mean absolutely nothing in the long run, sorry) to you!

Example:

This is Dirty Plaster btw.

30.3.12

Flying Forties

WELL DO YOU?

I actually rolled the 80s, but since Hyein did the 80s already, and I hate the 80s, I rerolled and got the 40s. The 40s were propaganda-heavy, and my favourite watchman/minuteman was prominent in the 40s I thought why the fuck not
I imagine Silhouette is pretty pro-war, or at least pro-VJ day because of that kiss. Ha.

It's also a bit UPA, which was also the 40s.

Also the Americans painted their planes to look like sharks.

1910s

Cubism. Subject: Matthew Gray Gubler.

28.3.12

1960s

went for a lifestyle illustration vibe, dunno if I succeeded :/

21.3.12

80's

Fun topic Megan.. the virtual dice gave me 80s
so I decided to draw a few of my sentimental animation characters made in 80's with the period's pop art colour scheme.

I wonder if any of you guys actually know these animation except of course the Inspector gadget..lol

anyone?

19.3.12

I Inflitrate.

A couple days late, whoops. But I finished! Which is more than I can say for most of my art these days.
Been playing a lot of Mass Effect.

Apparently I get to do a thing?

OK, so according to Nick, the list actually moves in the opposite direction I believed it did , and I *gasp* actually *shock* get to make a prompt *awe*

Give the 10-sided die a toss (and If you do not live with/are not a D&D geek, here are some virtual dice). Slap a "19" on front of the number that comes up and you will have decade whose art style you will mimic. Draw your impression of that decade. Feel free to get creative -- the 70s could mean R. Crumb, or it could mean flowery shoujo manga, or really uncomfortable national geographic ads! I don't care. do some fun thing.

Megan. Out.

15.3.12

I think this says it all.

The team of PokePhoo

As promised, here is my silly entry!

Because you can't really read it, here are all of you guys with your Poke-pun names: "Deegong, Rapidashley, Sanjyu, Apollokazam, Pikachang, Hitmonleisha, Derekans, Meganmite, Jenx, Nicolem, Julieon, Mileowth, Oddash, Chancia, Nidomeena, Kangasjohn, Tentacreunice, Nickoking, Mr. Mike, Pershyein".

The trainer is the Pokemon - so meta!

(Please forgive ugliness.. my tablet's basically dead, so I mouse'd this)

14.3.12

Fallout Phoo

Wheeeee. Fallout meeee!

I'm currently finishing my second entry for this, as the joke entry is more complex (and more fun!) than my srs entry. Also, my tablet is utter shit, so this is what you get. Sloppily coloured pencil drawings. I'm sorry.

13.3.12

Dhalsamju

Inspired by a drawing Dilraj did for me in 2nd year. Couldn't find the original. This is close enough. Line quality got effed up when i gif'd it >_<"

(click for animation)

11.3.12

Johnny of Earth

Mild mannered Johnny goes to bed after eating two dozen thai curry chicken wings and at the zenith of the planetary alignment is teleported to a fantastic new world of science, magic and luscious ladies! His alien makeup has granted him fantastic abilities and he begins an epic quest to conquer the evil wizards of the world and bring about the prophecy!

Having read Princess of Mars, I'm kind of excited for John Carter of Mars to come out and I think this reflects it. Video game-wise it would probably be closest to Brutal Legend crossed with God of War and Infamous. In short, the greatest game ever. Self character sheets are hard, by the way. They involve more introspection then I would have though and I was trying to be funny on top of it. No numbers though, math is lame. Arg! I should have put a weakness to math.

9.3.12

Ortho

Everything I do at work is 3/4ish ortho, so that's how I think of video games now.
Megan and I as little RPG character or something. I dunno.

Buy kittens to improve morale

God bless the freemium model.

Also, I'm not a UI artist, but I thought it should be done.

6.3.12

[PLAYER] added [DEE] to the party!

For my Game-Self, I decided to go the JRPG route, in the vein of games like Fire Emblem, Golden Sun and the classic Final Fantasy(ies). It was fun creating a compleeeetely impractical, over-the-top outfit for my Game-Self. I was this close to including an oversized bastard sword. Consider yourselves lucky I showed some restraint.

We all know I'd be a spellcaster of some sort. And a snarky one at that, hohoho~

EDIT: I just noticed when fullviewing, Blogger does that annoying black-background thing. It completely drowns out half the drawing, so y'all can full view directly HERE.

3.3.12

Your gaming self, stat!

Hello my lovelies!

This prompt is, once again, about gaming! No, don't run! It's only ham!

What I'm proposing is to stat yourself out and translate what makes you you into a video game character. Pick any franchise you want, or better yet, make up your own! Whether you want to go all out and pretend you're a DnD character, or give yourself simpler traits a la Mario Party, go for it! Design and draw what makes you uniquely you and run with it!

For the drawing aspect, you're to adapt yourself into something that'd make you uniquely a video game character. You can be your boring ol' self anytime! Time to get creative!

Here is a deviantart ID meme that is a good example of one take on this prompt. Feel free to interpret in whatever way feels right for you.

JUST DO IT. I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE. I'M WATCHING YOU.

26.2.12

Hoku Baxter

Hoku Baxter is a teenage girl with teenage problems. She isn't the prettiest girl at school, and her folks don't have a lot of money to speak of. She is not shy, but she doesn't have a lot to say.

She has always gone to the woods when she feels stretched thin, but never in her life has she encountered anything like this.

Yes it is a shameless rip off of the Torch Tiger Cover. I wanted to experiment with light and colour this time around.

21.2.12

Charlie Baxter is...

A doctor. A greengrocer. A security guard. A tailor. A police officer.

In short, Charlie Baxter is whoever he needs to be to get the job done.

17.2.12

Curse of the Monkey Island

I have to say, this is probably one of the most memorable childhood games
that I ever played.
Sucks that they don't make games like these anymore...(b4 it went 3D)

15.2.12

D&D

I feel like this is a cop-out, but I wanted to participate in this damn blog again.
D&D of course!

Crap picture, but whatever.
*EDIT* I'm going to pay for this tomorrow morning, but I decided to stay up and paint for a bit.

princess peach no fighteruuuu

The only games I actually rly played hardcore were Super Mario World, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat. Here is Princess Peach as a campy fighter chick with her lethal umbrella. I am too lazy to finish drawing/coloring Mario and Luigi.

P.S. Count your blessings I didnt go through with an updated version of Donkey Kong Polærobics.

11.2.12

I'll take the big one.

So my first thought on this post was Shadow of Colossus because that game is amazing, really well done and a lot of fun to play. I did the sketch you see here and went, "Sorry blog, I'm just not ready to sacrifice all this time on tiny details to have it not even come close to the actual game." So if you want to be amazed and inspired, go play it. Another game (series) I enjoyed were the Ratchet and Clank games, which are good too and the main characters are much much much easier to draw. But I like to think I stuck with a theme of little guy versus a very big construct. I bet the guy in Colossus wishes he had a Blitz Gun (or as I refer to it, Cone of Dead Things) like Ratchet.

Nordic Nightingale

Painted that bitch fast. Bitches love Nightingale Armor speed paintings.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

EDIT: As per request, I lightened it up, I don't realize how shitty my monitors are calibrated sometimes. :)
