Welcome to Guuurl, That's My Jam!

Here, have some rules:

1. Prompts are bi-weekly (lasting 14 days) and the rotational schedule to pick prompts can be found to your right, under ►Playlist. An "at-a-glance" version of the current jam can be found under ►Now Playing.

2. Posting a fill for each prompt isn't mandatory, but you MUST post at least one fill for the prompt preceding yours, otherwise your turn to pick a prompt will be skipped.

3. Please don't ask to join the blog (unless we know you). This place was created for classmates to keep in touch upon graduation, and as such it's pretty much invite only. You're more than welcome to follow for updates or play along at home and post the results at your own blogs. :)

The COOL FACTORY

So everyone knows the superheroes who were less than great -the superheroes who lacked in the super department. The superheroes who were more thuperduper than actually incredible.

So I ask you, since everyone had so much fun with superheroes last time, let's take the less than great ones - and make them cool again.

Think: http://www.manolith.com/2010/02/10/15-lamest-superhero-powers/ or there used to be one on cracked but hell if I can find it right now.

I'll post it if I can!

<3

Also, try to use more DC characters than Marvel, we had a Marvel onslaught last time!

18.6.12

Phoenix

Here's Phoenix, as inspired by mythology instead of just plain old alien-insanity.

I pulled from Mythology, mostly Greek with a litttle Nordic thrown in there. I kept her symbol in tact around her neck but it got a little malformed in my cack-handed painting job.

Mildred set the standards too high.

3.4.12

What do you See?

Sorry I'm late bros.

So I thought of an idea, to stretch our creativity. People have done it before, and I'm currently a bit busy to come up with something new however ---

Have at:

Take either of the two, or both, and draw something. Use the lines to inspire anything, poses, a landscape, a face, whatever you want.

When you post, post the drawing with the lines superimposed, and the drawing by itself!

<3

ADDENDUM:

Extra Challenge! If you go on CGTextures.com, and find a rock face, and use that to inspire your drawing, bonus points (That mean absolutely nothing in the long run, sorry) to you!

Example:

This is Dirty Plaster btw.

30.3.12

Flying Forties

WELL DO YOU?

I actually rolled the 80s, but since Hyein did the 80s already, and I hate the 80s, I rerolled and got the 40s. The 40s were propaganda-heavy, and my favourite watchman/minuteman was prominent in the 40s I thought why the fuck not
I imagine Silhouette is pretty pro-war, or at least pro-VJ day because of that kiss. Ha.

It's also a bit UPA, which was also the 40s.

Also the Americans painted their planes to look like sharks.

9.3.12

Buy kittens to improve morale

God bless the freemium model.

Also, I'm not a UI artist, but I thought it should be done.

26.2.12

Hoku Baxter

Hoku Baxter is a teenage girl with teenage problems. She isn't the prettiest girl at school, and her folks don't have a lot of money to speak of. She is not shy, but she doesn't have a lot to say.

She has always gone to the woods when she feels stretched thin, but never in her life has she encountered anything like this.

Yes it is a shameless rip off of the Torch Tiger Cover. I wanted to experiment with light and colour this time around.

11.2.12

Nordic Nightingale

Painted that bitch fast. Bitches love Nightingale Armor speed paintings.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

EDIT: As per request, I lightened it up, I don't realize how shitty my monitors are calibrated sometimes. :)

27.12.11

Big Changes

Sorry I'm late! I wasn't sure if I could actually find old artwork and I found this at the bottom of a bin today (I know >_>) and I decided to wing it. It has women being mildly intimate so if you're at work, and your boss isn't a huge fan of you looking at blurry pictures of ambiguous women, you probably should wait until you get home.

Of course it's lesbians. I played it safer the second time round, and I also changed a bunch because my costume design sense was peculiar when I was 17 (I also made it a period piece now, it's the 1940s in the second one)

I don't know if you can tell, but I was a wicked cleanup artist back in the day, some devotion that I wish I still utilized all the time.

It's from my own Graphic Novel (that got discontinued) "Dreams Like Anachronisms"

20.11.11

Libra as the Justice Seeker, and Charmer

Libras can be lazy folk, they can be quite messy, and generally unsuccessful people - if they don't have a cause to fight for injustice. What ever they deem unjust can motivate them. And no one can see other people's perspective like a Libra can.

However they can also be passive aggressive, and not particularly connected to any one person because of this unbiased perspective. They're also renowned for being particularly indecisive.

Libras are also known as the charmers, attractive people who can get along with everyone.

Or so the books say.

8.11.11

Legend of Korra

There, I coloured it.
I don't know about you, but I think Korra's arms are a bit too manly. Look at the wiki. (EDIT: Julia pointed out she's probably an Olympic level swimmer, so those shoulders totally make sense.)

EDIT: I had to retract an earlier statement, because I took 45 minutes out of my day to colour it. It was worth it. Avatar is amazing.

29.10.11

Freyja - The Goddess Of Fertility

I'm not gonna lie, I spent like 20 minutes on this. But I put Freyja as a single mom with a couple of babies, and a couple of cats, with a garden.

Freyja supposedly has a chariot drawn by cats, and I suppose she doesn't actually have tons of kids, and I suppose she's probably actually pretty well off.

But this is the 21st Century, she's probably part of the 99%.

EDIT: SORRY DOMEE, I was late. I apologize. Sorry Johnny, I totally jacked your prompt with this. Avatar  comes next.

29.9.11

Mother Truckin' Hufflepuff

Ha. Two Hufflepuffs so far, and more to come. I guess that just goes with being a passive-aggressive animator. Hohoho. I didn't mean that. That was a joke. The Passive Aggressive snipe.
Anyway.

I needed to practice self portraits, as I never do them. :) Enjoy

EDIT: You may say, that's awfully dark for a Hufflepuff. Badgers aren't usually very cuddly.

1.9.11

Home is Where the Heart is

Home is where the heart is.

(Actually I'm just really busy, but this was cute and I Wanted to do it, and you buggers better post now that I have, you have no excuse now)

EDIT: if you're wondering about the file name, I was listening to the glee version while I painted this because it's just as cheesy as this song.

27.8.11

CARE BEAR....FIIIIIIISSSTTTTTT

I'm definitely using this as an outlet to my current overworked psyche.

Sorry Ashley, your storm was BAD ASS (Seriously, make prints and sell that thing), but you took down Jupiter. And I couldn't have that.

And Care Bear Stare got an upgrade. A nice, violent upgrade.

Note: This Art Jam is a lot more active if we're given the opportunity to work off of each other, so whoever's prompt it is next, keep that in mind.

26.8.11

JUPITEL THUN--- F that. I'll just punch you.

I had to put my mark on this somewhere. I do actually have work to do, but it had to be done. Someone's already done a Sailor Moon character, and since Johnny drew Skeletor, and Apollo drew Bee, I thought, who better to take them both done at once than Jupiter.

AWww yeaaahhhh

Edit: I just realized someone drew Jupiter already.

Too late.

16.6.11

Prompt 005

My turn! HEuaheuhaea....

So it's summer now, and what's the only thing hotter than the weather? (actually its not that hot now)

Pin up girls! We seem to be on a bit of a binge when it comes to sexy so I plan on only adding fuel to the fire, but I'm gonna add a twist! The girl must be doing something - and if I had my way I'd say washing a car and the car had to match her somehow - but I know not everyone likes cars.

So let's do it like this:

If you want a challenge - draw a pinup girl, washing her car in the full summer heat. Her car must match her in some manner, and don't get lazy, her personality should come through in the car. Reference real cars, and car modifications - think Mustangs, Challengers, Porsches, Lamborghini or even go retro like an old Cadillac!

If you want to avoid drawing cars at all costs - draw a pinup girl, but she must be doing something, like her job (ie. hot nurse, hot waitress etc) or something around the house, draw those props!

Hopefully this exercise will not only train your ability to draw sexy, but also your ability to draw your character with props - an important asset! I should mention if you're sick of drawing sexy, but still want to participate, you can make a joke pinup.

Don't make it too lewd, make it classic sexy! What isn't shown is better than what is. This isn't porn, this is good fun!

An example from the King of Pinups - Gil Elvgren.

This is due the 29th! Or the 30th if you don't count today as the first day. I excitedly await...

EDIT:

Since some people are opposed to learning how to draw sexy chicks >:( I'm going to open it to drawing pin up men as well. I would prefer you challenged yourself, but it's up to you. :) Make them hot and all oiled up if you're drawing a guy.

31.5.11

I love Watchmen So much.

So I thought what better way to present a female Vigilante Group than to get a Watchmen hard-on and draw something along the lines of the intro to the movie?

Yeah I didn't finish. I could list all the reasons (read: excuses) why I didn't but I don't think I will. You can expect the finished version sometime soon (read: in the next 80 years) on my blog.

I may or may not have drawn the first image in approximately 20 minutes which explains its mild shittyness. And there's some proportion fail in most of them.

Enjoy the roughs. :)

Johnny asked for cheesy nicknames, and I only have one - and that's for the often-disputed leader of the group, in the middle of the "photo". Her cheesy Nickname is "Ice Floe" and that is, the correct spelling.

They all have their own super powers, generally speaking, some of them mildly more useful than others and some of them don't even use them.

I'm sorry I didn't get time to colour any of them. (Read: Finish any of them)

(Yes that's a sniper.)

Enjoy the intro with me, one more time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fl2spWNoXuA

Also this is nowhere near GI Joe. :( But they're still mercenaries.

9.5.11

(not) South America!

So, I've been making this portfolio for a gaming studio and I decided to kill two birds with one stone. Do the art jam, and do a piece for the studio. And then I got really into watching Deadliest Warrior, and started drawing- and then I was cleaning up - and I was like AWW YEAHHH AZTEC WARRIOR.

Wait that's totally mexico.

Shit.

So it's not South America. But it was inspired by. And Jaguars are in South America. Right?

...

I'm not that ignorant. I swear.

Also I did these, before the above one. Mostly as experiments. I know. I'm unemployed as of yet, waiting for work to start. This is what I Do all day. :(

28.4.11

The Jeweler!

I got crystal manipulation.

I may or may not have totally rushed this and it's not actually done, so I threw gradients on it to
pretend like it was.

A jeweler finds her gifts of crystal manipulation, and while she's totally tempted to abuse it for making tons of money, she uses her powers to fight crime...Probably against jewelery store robberies!

That's actually a pretty good idea. Hindsight is 20/20.
